We have both noticed a recent increase in the number of foreigner's visiting and, having spoken with a few of them, realised that certain services like accommodation, travel and translation (plus a friendly local contact) are big issues. Frequent tales of being ripped off, poor advice and broken promises are common, sadly.

Bill? How do you make a living in Ukraine? The average income is about $200 a month.

I usually tell them that I just teach English. This is true... Well, partially true. You see, I do
teach English along with sharing my experiences meeting foreigners. Offering my thoughts
to friends who need a little advice and often men who just want to learn more about the Ukrainian
culture and the people who live here. Just like any country, there can be many ways to earn a
living if you try hard enough. Being creative doesn't hurt either.

All of this is exciting enough, but I need to tell you that there is another way, that, for me, has
been a real adventure of a lifetime...(in business, that is) It's all about the Internet and how
it works and changes daily. There are many benefits working on the Internet, you can guess
what most of them are. For me, it's the fact that I can earn an income anywhere with just an
Internet connection, a computer and a little know how.

If you have considered moving to a foreign country for just about any reason and need extra
income, the Internet is one way to find it. Starting out, it wasn't easy for me. I had to earmark
time and energy just about everyday to educate myself. That was some years ago. I knew
that, just like most good things in life, creating a new business on-line wasn't going to be easy.
I have just stayed with it and progressed quite nicely over the last five years.

Getting into anything on-line needs to be done with caution and care. Remember that good
things in business take time. Once our new website is up and running, I will let you know

The best way to determine if a woman is honest is to do your homework

I try to find a few minutes each week to post a few thoughts. I am glad you found some useful information. Be sure to contact me just before yo make it to Nikolaev so we can schedule an interpreter for you. We charge just $10 an hour.

Your story sounds similar to mine starting out six years ago, however, one of the things I have learned from my experience is to never open and answer a letter sent to me first. Your situation is a little different.

Leaving a paid website can have a little of the good, bad and ugly. When you are using an international dating website, there are some protections you might want to know about.

First, all girls (even professional chatters and letter writers) get paid to chat with men everyday. They also use other ladies profiles without web-cam to chat and make money for herself, the agency and the website on many more than just one website.

Second, all ladies who use reputable paid websites, sign a contract. It says many things, including that a woman will never ask for money or gifts. If she does, I have known many men who have received massive refunds and credits.

Of course, there is a lot more to this, just remember that once you communicate outside an agency and paid web site, you are on your own with no recourse if something goes sour. Personally, I would NEVER COMMUNICATE with any woman outside an agency and paid website before we have met at least once face to face.

You stated that she speaks no English. Why is that? What foreign language did she study at school? Have you asked her? All citizens of Ukraine are required to study at least one foreign language. Eighty percent study English.

You are obviously new to dating overseas. All girls who are sent a gift through a paid website or marriage agency, rarely take the gift. They always take the cash. The odds are, the photos you looked at are stock photos. Pick a color... any color and there you go.

NEVER TRUST A PHOTO WITH GIFTS PURCHASED THROUGH A PAID WEBSITE OR MARRIAGE AGENCY. NEVER!

Only purchase gifts through reputable companies, but never an agency. Half of the time, a girl is never even told she has been sent a gift. The agencies often forget and the gift is never delivered unless the lady asked.... WHAT HAPPENED!

If she says she doesn't speak English, you need to find out if she is interested in taking English lessons. If she is willing, that is often a good thing. However, never pay her directly or through an agency or paid web site. This is not a request that she comes to our school. You can have her go anywhere. It just makes send not to send money to someone you don't know and have never met face to face.

You said you are using Skype every three weeks. Why is that? If you two are serious, why not speak with each other everyday? Even if she doesn't speak English (which I seriously doubt) both of you will have a lot of fun. It's not about the fact that you are speaking English, it's more about the fact that you have taken the time to meet with her.

Remember that people communicate many different ways. Only half or less of human communication is done with language.

The age difference is fine. Normally, I no longer have the time to reply in such detail. I wanted to take a little extra time today in the hopes that others will benefit from your search for true love and benefit from a few of my thoughts.

Well I now have the plane tickets in hand and will be visiting for 9 days in August! Wish us luck, because I feel it will be and adventure!

So I will be arriving to my apartment on August 12th 2012 and would like to have a translator for a good part of the day on August 13th 2012 as long as her day off stays a day off, but you know how it goes with hours and state hospitals! I feel it would be a good thing for the first meet and just to spend time getting to know one another looking around the city! IF all goes well then to dinner with the interpreter as well. I do have an Iphone and have a really great app that I feel will be perfect for the rest of my time there! We are only planning one night out and the other times we will be cooking in and by weeks end if she feels the same as she does now a dinner at her Granny's house and one at her brothers house. I also would like to visit your school on the main street while there and in the future may look to other services offered by you for her! I am a Information Technology manager so who knows I may not want to leave and get a job there!

Wow, where do I begin?

It all started in February 2000. I started writing to a couple of Russian and Ukrainian ladies from one of those on-line mail-order-bride agencies : L***me.com. I eventually settled upon meeting a lady (Tanya) in which I had the most common interests with. Being new to travelling to Ukraine, I decided to go on one of the Tours to Kiev that the company was having and I invited her to stay at the hotel. She spoke almost no English so she needed to have a translator with her in order for us to understand each other. I paid for the expenses of both of these ladies, including transportation costs to and from the city of Cherkassy (where they were from).
During my stay in Kiev, I met no other women except Tanya (and her translator). I talked to no other women. I did not go to the nightly socials that the tour company was holding.

It seemed a bit odd to me that Tanya held very little interest in me, and was actually quite bored.

Additional Details
As we were walking around Kiev, visiting different landmarks, restaurants, shops and nightclubs, I often tried to hold her hand (just for a few seconds). She would always pull her hand away in protest, as if it was causing her great uncomfort. My warning to anyone who reads this is the following:

DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKES:
1) If you walk down the street and you try to hold her hand while you're walking together, and she pulls away like you were diseased meat: RUN AWAY, and don't look back !

2) If you have travelled all the way from Canada (or the US), and she thinks it is more important to visit her relatives or go dancing at the nightclub that night , both WITHOUT YOU, then RUN AWAY, and don't look back.

Some had been on as many as five of these trips before; at least two had brought home fiancées in the past, though they hadn't actually married. They promised that we, too, would surely become repeat offenders once we saw what was in store. “Remember,” said one silver-haired gent in a well-cut suit and polo shirt, “they've only been liberated for ten years. They're going through a social and sexual revolution like we went through in the 1970s.”

We were lodged at the Hotel Rus, a massive structure perched on a hill at the edge of Kiev's downtown, with a flashing neon sign on top and, as with nearly every establishment in Kiev, bouncer-doormen in black leather jackets. On arrival we had been told that, since the bouncers get a cut from the in-house prostitutes' earnings, they would expect a $25 bribe if we wanted to bring any women back to our rooms during the course of the week; otherwise, the hotel would charge us for an extra guest. Our first two socials were to take place in the Rus's banquet hall, which meant that in theory we wouldn't have to leave the hotel for days, other than for dates.

It was three weeks before Christmas, and I was sitting in a Ukrainian business hotel with perhaps thirty men, mostly American and mostly on the later side of middle age, listening as a muscular, impossibly loud ex?radio D.J. who answers to “Dan the Man” promised that our lives were about to change forever. We were all strangers, but I knew at least one thing about these men: each was there because he was frustrated, angry, and tired of being alone. Each had decided that his best chance at happiness was to pay nearly $4,000 to a company called A Foreign Affair, which would ferry him through Ukraine on a two-week bride hunt, “like an alpha-male wolf,” as one testimonial for the tour giddily assured us, “having the sheep brought in.”

“One morning four years ago while walking out of McDonalds on Sovietskaya in Nikolaev with coffee in hand, I ran across my first encounter with a foreigner who told me that this was his twelfth trip to Nikolaev over the past few years. He told me that he had been on 6 tours to meet ladies. Each time failing miserably to find true love. As he told me bits and pieces of his disappoint­ing experience­s, I could clearly see there was something abnormal with this guy. There is a lot more to this story. Frankly, these days, I often feel sorrier for the women that are forced by the agencies to meet these guys just to make a buck.
